Includes a diary of his trip from New Jersey through the southern states, 1817-1819; correspondence from Marine Settlement, Madison County, Ill., regarding the kidnapping and rescue of his indentured slave, 1825-1829; and an account book from Alexander, N.Y., 1834-1842. Also includes papers from a Brazilian business venture attempting to obtain a steam navigation monopoly on the Amazon River, including maps, a diary fragment from his 1847 visit, and letters from A. H. Cazzam describing Brazil and its politics, 1846-1850.
